Third I.B.S.

Acts 8:15-16- “Who when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them, they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Here, we see the spiritual baptism of the people of Samaria. Growing up in the church, I always knew that there was a difference in being baptized in the Spirit and being baptized in Jesus Christ. While this does sound weird, considering the fact that the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ are the same person, I also believed that just because someone believes in God doesn’t mean they believe in Christ. Being baptized in Jesus Christ is different from being baptized in the Spirit. I believe you are baptized in Christ once to recognize the passing away of the old man into the new clean man, while you can ask daily to receive power of the Holy Spirit. We need to have the Holy Spirit come upon us and to be with us daily for the reason that, truthfully, we can’t make it through a day without the Spirit of God with us and filling us to the point where all that is seen from us is the love of Christ. We as Christians are just vessels that Christ uses to show His love to others and we only know this through the power of the Holy Spirit.
I need to remember that I need to die to myself every day. I need to be praying every morning for the Holy Spirit to give me a fresh outpouring for the day. I also need to remind myself that I am just a vessel that needs to be used by God and that I need to die to myself and just focus on what He needs from me
