Luke 21:19
-
“In your patience possess ye your souls.”
I’m not sure if I completely understand this verse, but I
guess if I were to write something from what I understand it to mean, then I
guess I would have to simply say that this verse says we need to have patience
in everything. Not just a physical patience as we are waiting to do something
or waiting to go somewhere, but a spiritual patience as well. I would say that
our patience needs to possess our souls as well as it does our bodies. While we
may be asking God to do something for us that is physical, such as a healing of
pain or sickness or bringing opportunities our way, we have to be patient about
those things in a physical sense and in a spiritual sense. If we are praying to
God for something like guidance for our self or for a friend or family member
to grow closer to Him, we need to have a patient soul, we need to be patient in
knowing that it not our time but it’s God’s time and that He will do things in
His time. While our souls should be restless in wanting more and more of Him,
they need to also be patient in knowing that He controls all.
I know that I am a very impatient person, physically and
spiritually. I pray for God to do something and expect it to happen the next
day, or at least in that same week. During my morning prayers, I will ask for
God to help me become more patient both physically and spiritually
